So, I picked up a 97 f250 from a guy I know for a 1000 bucks. Here's the issues I'm having.
He replaced the HPOP because of an issue with the truck always having a hard start, and the HPOP will drain empty when it sits. Most recently, it has sit for 4 weeks, and the HPOP has not drained empty. However, truck still has a hard start. Since I first bought it, the hard start persisted, but the truck would eventually crank, and ran like a scalded dog, regardless of the hard start.
Now, when I crank the truck, it'll have a hard start, and when it does start, the truck will hardly idle, and giving it full throttle, it'll eventually get to around 2500+ RPM, over the course of 10-20 seconds. I can turn the truck off and immediately crank it again, and it'll run smooth as butter for about 2 seconds, and then it'll lope, spit and sputter, and repeat the horrible idle and poor throttle response, along with throwing a check engine code (Don't currently have the capability of reading it).
The tac does move, so that rules out the CPS, doesn't it? My thought is IPR. I pulled the IPR and cleaned it, I noticed in videos, when taking apart the IPR, they were capable of getting the piston out of the tube, and on this IPR, it's impossible to get that piston out. Regardless of it not coming out, the piston does move freely in tube. The mechanic who worked on the truck before, when changing the HPOP, it looks as though they used vice grips to remove the IPR from the HPOP, as opposed to using the 1 1/8th or 29MM socket to do so, as the tube where the electromagnet sits is scarred up a bit.
Also, I have unplugged the ICP, at no change to the vehicle's operation.
So TL;DR, truck currently has a hard start, upon turning it off and turning it back on, it idles great for 1-2 seconds, and then goes into a rough idle with little throttle response, and throws check engine light.
Am I on the right track with the IPR being the likely culprit? Next thing I can do is remove the electromagnet from my good truck (2001) and test it on the 96.
