tap on the dash to fix

Sometimes when I start my 1995 E350 the odometer will not show any numbers and the trans will shift wierd. This is going to sound very strange but, for the past five years all I have to do is tap the dash and the numbers come on and the trans shifts fine. Any ideas what this is?

Ha....never thought of that but it is so true. I have been doing the fonze trick for five years. Now all i need is a leather jacket and a black comb One question left to be asked.... Would the fonze....had he lived in his prime today....be driving a one ton turbo diesel van???...........

I had that issue with my work van. There is a module inside the instrument cluster that goes bad and will do exactly what yours is doing. Mine did that for a long time and then one day it just wouldn't work like that anymore. I ended up getting a cluster out of a junkyard van. All is well again.

thanks for the info....Did the new cluster show the miles on the odometer of what the junkyard van had or the miles of your van or what???? I want to keep the current miles on my odometer if i can.

It showed the mileage of the van I pulled it from. The only way to fix that is to have the cluster reprogrammed for the correct mileage. That is very expensive to have done.
