I'm very new to Diesel trucks and this Forum. I bought a '96 PSD from my uncle last fall, had the quick shift goin for it, but was working fine. I didn't use it all winter. Started it this spring after charging the batteries, it started missing shifts, and the O/D light blinking. Found the P0500 code stored, put in a new VSS sensor and it made things worse, the sensor Ohmed out the same as the old, but was all plastic... So I got a decent scanner (MAC Taskmaster) and I was looking at live data and found that the VSS was cutting out above 6 MPH and causing pcm to revert to 1st gear regardless of speed that the cluster was showing. I checked the wires from the VSS to the speedo cluster and they ohmed good, then checked the wires from the speedo to the pcm and found them to be good as well. I figured to be down to either the cluster or the pcm. I found a good cluster out of a gas jobber and just plugged in the speedo unit. I drove it and now the vss was cutting out at 18 mph on the live data. So my ultimate question here - Am I looking at replacing the PCM?
just don't want to overlook something.
***Also to note, I replaced the Solenoid pack, the plug was full of trans. fluid. took all of the valve body off, inspected the valves and springs, put new gaskets and filter in.
