When replacing R&R a 4r100 I should?
I bought a 2001 7.3 psd 560 miles ago and now she needs a transmission replacement. I've been quoted 2243 for a remanufactured 4r100 with 3 year unlimited miles. I'm guessing this is my best option. However I'm looking for tips for things to do during this removal and replacement.
Any procedure needed to back flush my tranny cooling system? Any additional items I should go ahead and replace to guarantee longevity ? Anything I should add to install to make it beneficial? |

I'd install a new, big trans cooler from a 6.0 powerstroke. External spin on trans filter like the one from Deiselsite. And, personally, a modified valve body to firm shifts.

Ok so I have done a little more research. The 6.0 trans cooler and aftermarket spin on inline filter is on my list to do. I'm still worried about debris being in the oil to water cooler. Am I going to be able to flush this out efficiently?
Will the spin on filter be on the return side after the oil to water cooler? |

You can clean the tank...the filter would go on the return line from the tank but I'd just get a inline throwaway...Hastings TF109 Magnetic In-Line $20

is the 6.0 trans cooler a good idea? Only reason I was going to replace this item was do to the fear of material not being able to be flushed out. If I would be safe with a simple flush I will worry about this upgrade at a later date and get my truck up and running, however; if its strongly advised I'll go ahead and replace it.

NO...just get the tru cool max long as posted, SD lines and bypass.

Well....thats the problem he's posting in the OBS section...sorry the OP needs a 6.0 cooler....31 row is the best to get.

You have a 2001 SD, you need a 6.0 31 row cooler.
Your Posting in a OBS section not a SD section hence the confusion... |
