Question Ford F250 Transfercase Problems

I recently bought a 97 F250. When i got it the front drive shaft U joint was broken off and could see dents in bottom of the cab from where it had hit. It broke the 4x4 shifter on the floor. I have never owned a manual 4x4 truck till now and I think there is something wrong with the shifting into 4x4 on this one. Basically i think the shift part that engages the transfer case coming out of the transfer case got rotated a bit and does not line up. Can anyone show me pics of what it should look like? I've looked around and no pics show this part. In the pictures Its in 2H and the transfer case shifter part is straight up.
