Rear Seal Replacement and Bearing Grease!

I've got a leaking rear seal that I need to replace. Got it all apart and bearings look like they are in good shape so I'm thinking I'm probably not going to replace them but I read an article somewhere else, not on this forum that said you should pack the bearing with grease when you put them back in. Is that right? It also talk about putting a couple of ounces of motor oil in the hub assembly when reassembling. Only thing I can figure is this must be to lubricate every thing before the rear end oil gets there but I don't see why grease would be necessary since the oil lubricates them too. Guess I was a little worried about getting grease in the rest of the axle oil, I know it won't hurt the bearings. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

No need to pack the bearings, just slather some gear oil on them before you reinstall the hub. The diff oil lubricates the hub bearings.

Thanks! That's sure what I was thinking but the article I read, which was definitely for my rear axle, was pretty clear about greasing them first. I just couldn't see the point!

Thanks
