Issues with transfer case

So I made a thread on the truck I bought. 95 F-350 SCLB 4x4 Automatic, PSD.

When driving the t-case will pop out of gear whenever you decelerate. It pops in between neutral and whatever gear it was in. You have to come to a complete stop and put the transmission into neutral to engage the t-case again.

What would cause that? Bad t-case needing replacement or some sort of linkage issue? The shifter looks kinda janky and doesn't stick up out of the floor the way it should. Upon inspection underneath the shifter isn't secured in the little collar properly. Will provide pics when I get the truck here in my possession. Just trying to get my ducks in a row and get a better idea of what I will need to get this truck up and running again.

Thanks
D
