Just put a manual shut off valve in the supply line to the heater core, close it when you dont want heat and open it when you do

Question

is this just a cable with it`s housing going to a control valve with a push/pull knob mounted on the inside the cab? so what i'm thinking i'll need is a manual valve with the right diameters (in and out) to splice into the hot coolant line on the engine side of the firewall to block off the inflow of hot coolant to the heater core that will (hopefully) eliminate extra heat inside. if so, would additional insulation on the undercarriage be necessary?

hey TREE KILLER, i do the same sometimes but usually i`am hired to save big ole trees at homes where the tree is a VERY IMPORTANT part of the landscape. What do u mean when u say both lines? the in and the out?

They are a hand opperated valve. almost like a ball valve. The valve could go anywhere on the hose. If u did get a ball valve say from a hardware store u could probably solder short pieces of pipe, with the correct dia. to fit the hose. Just make sure tht all components will handle the heat. They have trees in Mexico?? ;]

i LOVE the ac and use it a lot but i don`t think it should be necessary when the weather is nice to cool. i also think that the ac lowers my MPG and acceleration plus the fact that i need a new hose since a charge only lasts a few months and costs me $25 to recharge the system.

On a diesel running the A/C is not going to affect your MPG. My MPG's barely change when hauling an empty trailer.

The heater bypass is the easiest thing to do so I would try that first. If you still want it cooler then you can insulate the cab.
