What should I look for

Sorry for the late post, but I am getting ready to buy a f250 diesel tomorrow.

I read a few posts about what to look for but just wanted to make sure before I spend my cash.

It is an '02 with about 63000 miles on it. Seems to run strong and drive fine. He said he had a programmer on it but doesn't remember the brand. He said it was the type that you just answer yes and no questions.

I checked the air cleaner and it seemed pretty clean, maybe a little dusty but that is it.

What else should I look at?

I don't think I have enough time to do a compression test. I am taking it in to my mechanic to have it looked at briefly.

Thanks

you can take the oil cap off and check for blow by, smoke huffing out. Do they not have the programer its locked to? Sounds like a superchips or an edge evo 1. If its an auto i would try to locate the programer and get that tuning outta there. WELCOME TO THE ORG by the way!

welcome to the org. i would check your typical stuff like fluids. especially the tranny fluid. also check for oil leaking around the inter cooler boots and by the turbo. if you have time, take the hose off to the turbo and check for shaft play. if you can get a car fax, that would be good. just to make sure the miles are legit. you never know.
