7.3L Loss of power, lights and low MPG
Ok guys newbie here, I have had my 03 7.3L since Jan 1 of this year. Only driven 2K so far. I had the problem of "loss of power" and then returning real quick. It hits hard and feels like I am going to blow out the tranny. It will do this several times then the check engine light will come on. Each time after I stop and do a restart it goes away and runs fine. I call local ford and the Cam postiosn sensor has had the recall done. It has done it a few more times so my buddy let me use his code reader, no codes!!!!!! He let me keep it so if it comes up again I can hook up and see why the light is on. In the mean time I am getting like 13 MPG. The truck runs great, losts of power, tows trailer well. Just crappy MPG, When I first got the truck I did change oil, filter and fuel filter, what could I be missing?
Am I going to get that crappy mileage? What about the "lossof power" Am I using the code reader wrong? (it says it will work) Thanks guys. |

It has happend while going about 65-75 on the highway. Tried crusie control on and off did it on both. It usually dose it once, then about 3-5 min later it will do it 3 or so more times much closer together. After 2 or 3 of them the orange light will come (looks like a picture of engine). I read the book but it was of no help. This last time I was only going about 50 close to home, it then died in my driveway while I was turning around. It restarted immediately. Can't think of any other info to give out off the top of my head. |

I have not changed the CPS (yet), I borrowed a code reader so if it throws a code I can hook it up and read it. Is there a routine I don't know on how to retrieve codes? I just hooked it up and turned key to on but it did NOT have any codes. I hope that when the light comes on I can hook up and see why it came on to better trouble shoot. Since my last post I have driven it about 200 miles and no problems. |

Likely a fuel problem, at highway speeds it is needing more than it can deliver, can't refill injectors and flames out. Check the fuel screen under the pressure regulator on the side of the fuel filter housing. When everything is not running right, fuel usage will go up. Also winter fuel will reduce mileage.
