603 is nothing, it just sets that one when computer power is cycled which can be caused by disconnecting batteries or changing tunes with a programmer. It’s nothing to worry about (Keep Alive Memory) just lets the Ford folks know if you’ve been messing with the computer so they can void the warranty. 470 is a problem with the EBP (exhaust back pressure) sensor. It is located above the water pump and has a tube that runs to the passenger manifold, it works with the EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve) which is a butterfly valve in the turbo exhaust outlet and is operated by engine oil piston actuator in the turbo pedestal. This whole conglomeration of parts is supposed to aid in warm up time in really cold weather. Sometimes it could be the sensor but a lot of times the tube is either clogged or rotted out. I have removed all of that crap from my truck. Neither of these codes will cause the truck to not run or miss. |

So help me clarify your current problem, Originally it had one dead bank and you found a melted plug. You’ve fixed the melted connector and are absolutely sure there are no wiring or connection issues under the valve cover or in the valve cover gasket plug or in the engine harness plugs? You had it code read and found two seemingly unrelated codes? The truck now runs but has a slight miss? Have you cleared the codes and seen if any beside 603 come back? Do you have access to a spare IDM you could try? How much have you tried to run the truck and how bad does the miss seem. |

It looks like a box, kinda like the PCM, on my E99 it is inside the drivers fender well and I'd have to pull down the rubber fender skirt to get to it. Your 96 I think is in a different place, I hate to try and give any advice on something I'm not familiar with. Maybe search some posts on IDM's. Also I don't think there is a way to test it and since it makes something like 110 volts of DC power you better be careful with it or it might knock the crap out of you. Again I have no way of knowing that your IDM is bad, thats just a guess and probably what I'd try next. It would be better if you could borrow someone’s that is known good. If you do decide to buy one then I recommend car-parts.com for used electronic parts, I got my spare PCM from them for $75 delivered. It looks like if it were an IDM problem then you’d be getting IDM codes for it but stranger things have happened.
