Fuel Problem??????
New member. Please help guys. '03 F-250 w/6.0L. A week ago, truck started lugging like fuel filter was stopping up.I thought. well I'll change them this weekend . Next day, while driving, truck lugged down and died. Change filters beside road. Like to have never got refired and truck still luggs. Only runs about 40 to 50MPH and struggles to do that.
Talked to an International dealer and he said I had air in fuel system and should let it idle for a while and should be OK. Let idle for 3 hours and still have problem. Pulled top of secondary filter and turned key on. Getting fuel to there. Took inlet line off primary filter and blew back thru it and still have problem. Wondering if the fuel pump is not pumping enough pressure or the fuel pressure regulator is not holding pressure up right.Truck has 69K miles and I/ve changed fuel filters at every 15k Also, before it died on me, a few days earlier, I noticed it was becoming a little harder to start. Need Some Advice Thanks. |

It could be your fuel pump. On military rigs one way to check is to pump air in to the fuel tank to force air out of the lines and fuel to the injectors. Try that if you can figure a way to keep air from escaping the tank while filling it. If you do get it air tight, be carefull not to put to much psi in there as it will blow o rings. I wouldent go over 5 to 7 psi.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to do that. (Scanner). However,no lights ever came on so I don't know if there will be any codes. Where can I get a scanner? Since truck is almost out of warranty by years (5) only has 68K miles, I guess I'm going to have to learn to work on it myself with a lot help from other folks. What;s a good scanner to h ave and at what price? Thanks,

Truck rough idling and then dies
I ![]() have a 2003 with 27811 miles and last night after punching it over a hill, I noticed the truck vibrating a little. When I got home it was real bad. Well I started it up the next morning and all was fine until about 20 miles. Then it started acting up again and then I lost power. I put the petal down to see nothing happening and then dying along the road. If I let it sit for 10 mintues and start it up, I can move again, but slowly in 2nd and then to a higher gear. When I approached a hill, it just wouldn't want to move. I got the codes P0276 and P0272. The local dealer said it is probably bad injectors. I have the extended warranty and hope all is covered int he warranty. I was running a diablo predator just 2 days before and decided to run the stock for a few days to see if there was any MPG difference. Besides not haveing as much power, the MPG were the same. The dealership said it will be a few days to look at it. The tow truck driver told me that if I put 1 qt of automatic transmission fluid in a tank of fuel, it will lubricate the system really well. Any takes on this?![]()

Well fella's, here's the scoop. Scuffy looks like you were right. Took baby to Ford dealer and they found ICP and IPR bad. After 3 IPR's they kept getting shavings in the IPR so they had to replace the high pressure oil pump. Got her back last week and she runs like a top. Missed the factory warranty by 1 1/2 months so after $3400 I'm back on the road. Thanks fellas for your help.

I ended up paying $835 for the repairs. It turned out to be the #2 and #4 fuel injectors. Also after the repair there was a compression leak that caused the remaining 2 cylinders to misfire. But all is well now.
