stuck in 4hi weird grinding noise????

i have an 06 PSD 4x4 with a six inch lift and 28000 miles on the clock. i went off roading for a little bit last night and shifted into both 4hi and low and back to 2 wheel as well. anyways when i got back on the road the thing feels like its stuck in 4 hi and when i got home it started making a grinding noise. it was really weird too because the truck drove very odd. like it kept wanting to jet off in one direction?????? anyone please help me out here!!!!!

grab your front driveshaft and try to spin it by hand... if it doesnt spin then its still locked on 4wd.... it could either be a locked hub/hubs or your electronic shift actuator on your transfercase could be malfunctioning...

Did you back up after putting it in 2wd? Sometimes it will get stuck unless you back up. I always back up just to be sure. My dad ruined both hubs driving from cheyenne to denver in 4wd cuz it didnt disengage and the techs told him to back up everytime he comes out of 4 wheel.

if it does spin then its not the TC.... but could still be something else... could be a hub that is engaging or half engaged.....

if that doesnt take care of it could be something internal in your axle

Go switch your hubs to maual then back to auto a few times. If they are hard to turn then its a bad hub. My dads were not even able to turn so thats how we knew. If they turn fine try putting it back in 4 hi and 4 lo by using neatral or whatever you have to do drive a little bit stop put it in neautral then back to 2 wheel...back up for a ways maybe 100 ft or so see if that helps. Also turn on your heat and see if you can get it to blow out all vents (floor dash and defrosters) if it doesnt come out all then it may be the vaccum actuator for the shift on the fly.
