Fuel pickup foot broke, dealer closed.

Dropped my tank due to low power expecting clogged mixing chamber screens which they are but first thing I noticed was my pickup foot was in pieces along the bottom of the tank. Dealer is closed and I'd like to be able to use my truck tomorrow. Can I replace the foot with diesel rated tubing and cut a V in bottom of the tubing to keep from suctioning itself to bottom of tank?

Sure, better than nothing!

I think one of the purposes of the "umbrella" is to prevent the vortex that can occur as you suck from a shallow pool of fuel. The other is the screen that's there but, you have some sort of prepump filter I assume?

In any case, I don't think that umbrella-foot is absolutely a necessity...

I actually went to parts store and got a hard brake line because I was worried tubing alone would curl up away from bottom of tank. It will be attached using a short piece of diesel rated tubing and hose clamps. I don't have a prepump filter but will probably get one as it's good to have anyways. Thanks for the quick response.
