Chunks of plastic in engine oil

Buddy called me over to look at his truck because of a hard start and very rough idle.

He started it for me and when it fired is sounded like it was running on two cylinders. I pulled the dipstick and this is what I found.

Looks like the dipstick plastic was breaking off and falling down the tube into the oil. What do you guys think. I told him he probably damaged multiple injectors and maybe the HPOP.

At the very least id say he needs to replace the oil cooler screen and the IPR screen as well. That's if he is lucky!

I have no idea why the dip stick would have disintegrated like that. anyone ever seen that? The dip stick on my 07 is different.

Plus it's running rough… which makes me believe the HPOP is plugged up somewhere.

Found the problem!!!! He had striped out the fuel pump drain plug changing the fuel filters himself. When he put the new part on he didn't connect the fuel pump electrical connection all the way on. Drained the oil and replaced the filter using rotella t-6 and a motorcraft filter. bam fired right up.

How far digging into the motor should we go in order to make sure that broken plastic didn't contaminate the whole oil system?

That doesn't make a bit of sense...How does something stripped out in the fuel system end up in his oil?

Pull the oil filter, check that for the presence of plastic bits too...and check the standpipe.
