02 F250 RC 4X4 Grinding noise?

As the title says I have a 2002 F250 RC 4X4. My wife is driving it from Fl to TX. She is in Baton Rouge right now. She said that the driver's front area is making a constant grinding noise from idle speeds up to about 10 MPH. Does anyone have an idea what this might be? She has an appointment with a mechanic in the morning. I just don't trust a mechanic i don't know, and think the might try and take advantage her. Just because she is a female. That about all the information i have for it since I'm not there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
