Oil leak causing vibration and noise under truck????

2001 7.3 4x4, 35" tires, I have an oil leak on top of motor dripping down back of motor by the bell housing. Oil leak is not the issue Im worried about right now. Going down the highway its getting on driveshaft and everything else. Im getting a bad vibration around 40 MPH but if I engage the brake it stops. I think the oil is causing it. I dont know if its off balancing the driveshaft. Im 600 miles from home. Just need to know what step to take.

Sounds like u-joints or carrier bearing to me. Have you checked them?

if you hit the brakes and it quits , then its very well a hub bearing or brake issue , hitting the brakes wouldnt make the vibration go away if it was driveshaft related , one things for sure its not the oil

If oil cause vibration... wouldnt rain water? I would jack up the front end and start checking bearings, brakes, ect.

Not disagreeing with you one bit scuffy828, but I would still check the U-joints. Mine did the same (vibration went away when I let off the accel, and when I pushed on the brakes (vibration was still there but not near noticable)) And it ended up being my rear U-joint.

I figured it out, the hub assembly. The reason I thought it was oil is because it was all over the brake calipers. If we didnt ask stupid questions we wouldnt need this forum. Now that I think about it the oil thing was pretty stupid.
