Here's what I did for my 2 years overseas: ensured that someone was around to take care of my truck first and foremost. I had someone fire it up once a week and let it run up to operating temp. Every 2 weeks they drove it a few miles and topped off the fuel tanks. Every month they locked the front hubs in and drove it a few miles. It was garage kept the entire time. This ensured that whenever I came back all I had to do was fire it up and go. If you let one of these trucks sit too long without running the injector o-rings will deteriorate and cause problems.

I don't see why you couldn't put it outside with a cover on it on a military post, I never had a bit of trouble with anything I did on post vehicle wise.

if you are going to be backing it up and letting it run for awhile then there is no need to put it on jack stands. The main thing with the jack stands is the vehicle wieght is alot for them tires to support for a period of time with out moving. Which in the long run could cause flat spots on the tires. Which then means needing new tires. I too have been stationed on a military base and I have seen many vehicles covered up outside in storage waiting for there owners to return to them. I highly doubt that you would have any problem storing outside under a cover on a base. I do recommend that you do drive it around base once in month. When the weather is nice and the pavement is dry take it out for a spin you may fall in love with it and want to sell your jeep. But storing it in the garge is the best thing to do. Running it once a week and trying to drive it once a month is the best thing to do for that truck and it is the simpliest way to store a vehicle.

Thank-You for all of the suggestions... great information. I'll take it out and fill it up with DIESEL not gas tomorrow and get the Anti-Gel from Schuck's Auto Supply.

To the guys who mentioned it's ok to store on post/base.

As you know, each installation has different rules. I am not sure where you have been or lived, but we are not allowed to store POV's or Recreational Vehicles in housing here. I could get away with parking his truck outside, but covering it up and putting it on a Jack is a dead give away that it's not being driven. Hence- it would meet storage lot criteria.

My husband has been in the Army 16 years, this isn't my first duty station. I too have seen vehicles covered and stored. It's just not allowed HERE. I don't know if it's because we are required to shovel and de-ice within 3 days of each snow- meaning all vehicles would need to be moved, or if it's because we have such limited space?

I was planning on taking the truck to the storage lot and parking it IF I could just pull the battery out and LEAVE IT ALL WINTER, but that sounds like it's not an option according to the comments above, so I will just keep it in the garage.

It looks like a pretty good consolidated checklist regarding storage, and pretty-much echoes what has been brought-up on this thread. On a side-note, I've driven through Ft. Rich at least a hundred times, and not once have I seen evidence of extended RV or vehicle parking in the housing areas. Looks like the Post is pretty strict about that, as is Elmendorf AFB... Hope all goes well for you both, neighbor

Cool! Glad to be of help. I noticed quite a lot of information on the parent-link regarding several years worth of Ford F250/350/450/550 specifics, diagrams, and pictures related to many subjects that have been discussed on the numerous threads here on the Ford Diesel Forum. And, it was a thread on one of the earlier forum postings that brought me there to begin with... This Forum is awesome!!!
