EGT's EXtremely High

I have a Ford F-250 superduty 7.3L powerstroke with 4" exhaust. I have a EGT gage that measures temp at the outlet side of the turbo. I recently have noticed loss of power, no black smoke and cruising (65 mph-no load)temps at 900 degrees. On an uphill incline I see temps at 1000-1050. I read that if you are measuring temp at the outlet side of the turbo you need to add 200 degrees. I'm very worried that I am going to destroy my truck. Help.

I travel the grade between yuma and san diego alot. I was pulling a flatbed trailer the other day empty and my EGT's shot up to 1350 degrees at the outlet side of the turbo. Any suggestions. Thanks

Adding 200* to the downpipe number my not be enough. Some say up to 400*.

I need to know your mods. I also highly recommend adding a pyro to the exhaust manifold off the driver side head. This is will tell you exactly what is going on.

I also question the pyro readings.

I just went and checked the temp is being measured before the turbo on the driver side exhaust manifold.

Seems a bit high.

Check the turbo for shaft play. You may have a bit of linear play (in and out) but you shouldn't have any side to side play.

Is the filter clean?

Filter is clean. I have been noticing for awhile that I have had no smoke coming out of my exhaust even when I get on it or when it is under load going up a steep grade. I am having a hugh loss of power. stuggling to make it up the grade to san diego that I have made many of times with no problems. The only change I made was going to a 4" exhaust. The programmer company (hypertech) says that is the problem. He said the exhaust puts no back pressure on the turbo and lets it spinn up rapidly and creates more boost thus more EGT's .

Complete BS.

There is no back pressure. On a turbo charged engine, the "drive pressure" is from the manifolds to the turbo pedestal. From the turbo back, is an after thought.

How much boost are you building? Are your up-pipes leaking?
