WHAT TO DO, PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey fellas. I bought a F-250 6.0L new in July of 2005(10 miles on it, and yes it was the same day I got engaged. First, at 30k miles, the EGR stated sputtering real bad, and almost left me stranded hauling my work trailer a couple hundred miles from home. Second, the turbo started stauling out, like they do, and the ford dealership supposidly took it apart and rebuilt it. Now, just yesterday, it got me to the bottom of my driveway, started puking blue smoke out the tailpipe, and when you hit the gas pedal it sounded sick(injectors/who knows). Thank god it still has only 95k on it(still under warranty).

Here's the question. This truck is the backbone of my business. Until I get my truck back, I have to rent a box truck in order to work, which means I have to make a truck payment, AND rent payment. We all love Fords here(bought an 05 GT mustang the same time I bought this truck), but shoud I face the music and realize that some of the 6.0L's are crap(or at least the turbos and injectors are) and buy a Cummins or Duramax, because I certainly don't have the $1500 this truck is going to need every 30k miles or so.

I was told to put an MBRP or Banks 4" exhaust on it, yank the convertor out, and put a tuner on it and these BS problems would ironically dissappear, but will I ever get another state inspection passed? Is it true that if I spend another $2k on these mods, my truck will be more reliable?

thanks for any knowledge you guys can share. I'm not looking towards the lemon law just yet. But $40k on an american made truck that only lasted me 95k miles is unacceptable.

blue smoke means oil in exhaust. could be a blown oil seal.

Id call lemon and have them buy it back.... if you care about status, and NEED something new-er, go with a Dmax (not the 07-08 junk), or CR cummins.

If you dont need something new, and you just need it to haul, get a dodge W350 or 3500 with a 12V. ittl be cheaper in the long run

Or an old 7 3

But, if you like your ford (who dont).... Get an extended warranty.

The best way to keep a 6.0 out of the shop for repairs is to take it into the shop for maintance. Don't drive it like a grandma. Adding an exhaust and tuner won't make it anymore reliable. The only thing I would suggest is deleting the EGR system and leave it at that. My truck always gets serviced and the engine has been trouble free till 60K when the EGR cooler broke but that was kinda self inflicted. What I suggest doing is take it to the dealer ask to have the engine pulled out of the truck and have them do all the updates on the engine and while it's out ask if they will put ARP headstuds in it if you supply the studs. Oh and have it done under warranty.

mainly deleting the egr and installing arp studs will make the 6.0 bullet proof. my dads 06 6.0's egr is starting to crap out at 25k miles hes gonna delete it after the warranty is up

Friend of mine is a diesel tehc at the local dealership...he was telling em he found out the Ford trucks manufactured in Mexico that are not for eport to the good ole US of A don't have the EGR coolers, DPF's or any other emission junk and they are not having any problems what so ever. SO...My opinion is to get rid of all the emission crap (cat, EGR cooler DPF, etc etc) and drive it like you stole it.

but will I ever get another state inspection passed

If you are worried about inspections, gut the cat and put the case back on...I have never seen anyone drop the exhaust to see if the cat is actually operational, and they don't hook them up to the emission machines ( here anyway). Good lcuk with the truck, hate to hear about the probs.

Thanks gents

Here's what I've came up with. I'm going to keep her! And do you know why? I'm a Ford man. Sometimes it isn't easy sticking to your belief's, but I think that POWERSMOKIN has a good point. Ford had the 7.3 pretty bulletproof. Then the govt. took that away from us. So here's my plan. I'm at 98k now, so I'll buy the DIESELCARE warranty from Ford for the $1600 to extend the warranty to 200k. Meantime, I'm looking for a 7.3 to pull my trailer with to keep some miles off. Getting ready to order a chip(comparing which one), exhaust(comparing), and air filter(comparing). I want to add Harley Davidson interior(if anyone can help in finding it). But thanks guys, you've been a big help. Hopefully I can return the favor sometime!

tuner, TW or SCT Livewire

Intake - S&B, AFE or AirAid

Exhaust - MBRP
