my 97 7.3 has a similar issue... its happend on several occaisions, last summer it ended up to be a loose wire on my alternator. just a few weeks ago it happened again. i unplugged my pcm, cleaned all connections and put that electrode gel stuff on the connectors. it hasn't happened since. mine would do the same thing with the dinging. everyonce in awhile it would do a weird ding and none of the check lights on the dash came on,. thats how i would know it wasnt going to start. hope this helps

You said you have a warranty, I would take it in to the shop. I know you have a busy day, but either your truck is sidelined at a place that will be fixing it for you, or it may be sidelined anyway, getting towed to a place that will fix it for you. I woul;d take it in. Actually I would do it myself, but you already said you didn't want to do that...

good luck
later

if it cranks and doesn't fire, one simple thing to try is to unplug the cooling fan connector on top of the fan shroud. On some vehicles, the electric part of the fan clutch shorts out, and it takes VREF to 0V so no sensors will work.
