Buying truck...7.3 or 6.0?????
Looking to buy an Excursion, the budget is right around 15k so that puts me in a '03 6.0 with 135k or if I go 7.3 we are looking at '02 with close to 180k....help!!! need to decide within a few hours |

The first 6.0's (as in the '03) were the most problematic, by then they had perfected the 7.3 (as in the '02). All things being equal, maintenance, condition, & worked needed, I'd say the 7.3 for sure

If you want to hot-rod the truck, go with the 6.0L. Alot more options down the road, and better performance vs investments. However, you have to ensure the truck is mechanically sound before you make the investment. Read the following threads, and don't rush into buying a 6.0L: Things to consider about owning a 6.0L Write Up: Bullet-Proofing the 6.0L PSD. If you go with the 7.3L you have a motor that is going to last you quiet a while, but the hot-rod potential isn't there. Your concern goes from the motor to keeping the 4R100 Trasmission healthy. |
