Unhappy tank strap broke help

So i was at a friends house removing the muffler on under my truck. When i went to slide over and i bumped into something so i turn around and its my fuel tank hanging there by the back strap the front one was broke. I talk to my brother who is a gm macanic and he doesn't think that ford made a fuel tank that is just a long steel box. my truck is a used 2006 f-350 crew cab short box. so i have two questions does ford make that type of tank? my brother says that he has only seen molded tanks on the ones that he has seen. The most fuel i have put in it was 39 gallons with the low fuel light just turning on. And second has any one had a strap break. I only have 53000 miles on this truck and i think a fuel tank strap should last longer than that. sorry for the novel post. Thanx
And the truck sounds great now.

Probably a bad strap. Call aero fuel tanks or transflow to get a replacement.

i took a secound look and the tank is 5 to 6 feet long about a foot wide and has a slight angle on the front. im assuming thats so it doesn't catch on anything. But the stap has only sight surface rust. it snapped right on the first right angle bend next to the out side hanger bolt. just seems odd.

You could probably get an original for pretty cheap and throw it in yourself. The strap is way less then 100 bucks i'd imagine so i wouldnt go in for warrenty. That sounds really wierd though, because usually you dont see straps breaking on newer vehicles.

Exclamation

Well i just stopped in at a ford dealership and they said that the tank was aftermarket. i just bought the truck about a month ago. I have no idea were to go to get it fixed. It looks like its just angle iron but i dount know were i would pick that up or the right way to bend it so it doen't break.
i live in Eden Prairie,MN
