Melted wires...

Hi everyone, hope you guys can help me. My husband and I aren't sure exactly what has happened. We own a 96 F350 PSD with DRW. We were on our way to go camping and when he ran over a set of railroad tracks he lost the turbo and could only go 30 mph. He called the guy that works on our trucks and he said it might be moisture and told him to go and get new fuel. So we went 20 miles out of our way and got new fuel, it helped a little but we were still only moving at 40 mph. when we did get to the land he took out the fuel filter and it was nasty. I bought him a new one and that is when we found it was a fuse. Change both and then it did it again and we found a wire harness to one of the glow plugs was completely melted and now we are just trying to figure out to fix. If anyone can help that would be great.....

Thanks in advance,
Taresa

This is a problem, most likely what happen was the gpr ( glowplug relay) shorted out which caused the harness to melt. I suggest changing the relay and repairing or replacing the harness. I would also replace the glowplugs while your at it.

He is going to take the valve cover off and check the wires and then change the plug and see if that helps. The plug was melted not the wires.
