Oil Filter Replacement Discrepancy

I am replacing the oil filter myself for the first time. The Fram CH9549 that I bought is entirely different than the existing filter which was installed by a Lube Shop. The two ends of the old filter are identical, while the Fram has one end with a plastic disc and plastic tabs which seem to interfere with the installation. Please tell me what gives.
