97 7.3 F350, CEL comes on

Here are the symptoms, I can start the truck but it runs REALLY rough! the Check Engine Light is on so I have my local guy take a look and the CAM sensor needs replaced, the first one delivered new was bad out of the box, got the second one delivered by ford and the problem still exists. When i was driving (limping it in) I came to a stop and put it in nuetral to feather the pedal and let the idle come down and the CEL went out and it ran just great (Like it usually does) for about 7-8 miles down the road and then the CEL came back on and stayed on. When first starting (th efirst couple of seconds) it runs for that second and the CEl comes on and it runs bad (rough) any Ideas? this is my only vehicle and I sure would apprecaite the help to get it back on the road. Thanks!

Have you checked the wireing harness on the top of the engine? Sounds like it could be a valve cover harness problem.

There are so many little things to consider, I'll leave it up to the techs. Some problems can be narrowed by CEL on or off, wait to start on or not, tach working, fuses blown, color of smoke or none at all etc.

All other things are normal, oil pressure, not much smoke, glow plugs are working correctly. It was just weird, parked it from work went out the next day and it started fine for about 6 seconds and then the CEL and rough idling started.

All better now

It was the valve cover molded connections inside, they had "melted" down causing the circiut to give the code that indicated the cps. Thanks for everyones help.
