Question Temp fuel pressure guage?

Just a quickie question that needs an answer right away (like before 7:00 am Thursday). It still concerns my E550 that I've had nothing but problems with...(the biggest being Allegheny Ford and their incompetent techs). Specifically regarding the consistant P1211 code...at long last after Scott W's advice and some stern insistance on my part, they did a fuel pressure test, or rather they hooked up the guage and I took it for about a 60 mile drive...Lo and behold, the pressure would drop to ZERO when under a load (ie pedal to the metal at 55) and stay there for longer and longer time...after about 20 secs or so it would start losing power (duh!) I didn't push it to the point where the SES light would come on so that may be yet another nut thast needs to be cracked. Anywho...I insisted they drop the fuel tank per scott's advice and sure as schyt, looked almost as bad as my kitchen sink trap...lots of crap and could even see it INSIDE to plastic tube "thingys" on the sending unit/pickup tube assy (expert vocabulary there don't ya think..LOL). Point being here, I have a long run tomarrow that I need this truck on and would like to monitor the fuel pressure to see if it drops to nothing BEFORE it drops to nothing and leaves me sittin on the roadside with my thumb up my you know where. Will, in a temp situation, an oil pressure guage work as well as a "Fuel Pressure" guage, so long as the pressure range is compatiable? I can pick one up at Advance Auto for 20 bucks in the morning and install it while they're still working on the tank....Yeah...yeah...so much for the quickie..sorry 'bout that.

I know the Autometer guage can be used as an oil pressure or fuel pressure guage, says so in the instructions with the guage, and it's an electric hook up off the sender so it's easy to install.

If you are trying to connect mechanically to monitor pressure that will work for you.

WIth your known crap in the tank, I suggest you put a filter pre-pump going forward. Your whole system may need to be cleaned after what they found in your tank.

Sure wouldn't hurt, wouldn't the dealer take care of that when they found all the garbage in the tank though? I would assume they would at least ask the owner if he wanted to get the entire system cleaned. And a pre filter would be a very good investment.
