uhhhhhhh could be a combination of things but you are troubleshooting correctly. When you unplugged the ICP the IDM defaults a base voltage because it isn't recieving any info from the ICP, therefore going into a limp mode (sort of). With your ICP plugged in and possibly shorting out could be what is causing it to die.
Good luck and keep us posted... I love this long distance troubleshooting..

Well I will try to get an ICP sensor from the dealership. The dealership wasn't to much higher than I can find one on ebay right now. Also the truck is an early 96 and on ebay they listed ICP's from 96 1/2-03 7.3's so not sure if I need to get a different ICP than other years or not. I was wondering if there was other problems since the truck has been throwing CPS codes for a few months and I keep replacing them and then finally I get an ICP code and still the CPS code also. Would a bad ICP throw a CPS code sometimes?

If you had someone else near you, you could try some swapping crap to find the bad part(s). It is hard to tell what is/are the underlying causes to your issues. It could be a bad wire shorting something out and causing these codes... Hard to tell... At least you are not paying someone $100/hr to do what you can do yourself.

Yea my buddy has a diesel shop but mostly just works on road tractors and buses but he has a blown up Fed-ex truck with a blown 7.3 in it I am going to see if I can borrow the ICP sensor off of it before I have to buy one and that not be my problem or something.
