Odd Clutch Problems, Confused
okay my clutch is slipping at random points while im driving, it starts at about 1800 revs to 2200 and then slowly starts to grab, the clutch aint burning bad enough to smell or anything but idk y its slipping in the first place, its never had this problem until after i changed the fuel filter out. is it poissible that some diesel fuel got onto the clutch and it need cleaned out or something, i really need to figure this out before college starts back up in a few weeks

Yes. What happened is that you fuel bowl drain hose was not attached or it was clogged or something. The drain valve should connect to this little metal and rubber hose that drains over the front of the engine. I haven't ever seen one that actually worked. I have seen many of them too. Instead, the fuel ended up in the engine valley. There are drain holes in the back of the valley that drain the valley to the back side of the flywheel. On an automatic it doesn't matter if you get fuel on the flexplate and torque converter. I don't have any manuals, so I never thought of it being a problem till now. On a manual it will get your clutch plate wet with diesel.
It will probably dry with time. I know that getting brake fluid (from the slave cylinder) onto any clutch or brake surface is bad news. It doesn't go away. Brake fluid on a clutch = need a new clutch. With diesel, I would definitely keep using it. Try to let the truck get hot without slipping your clutch. Maybe idle it. Last resort before changing it is maybe pour some gasoline in the engine valley. It will drain down the same hole, and maybe wash away some of the diesel. I don't know what you have for an inspection/dust cover on a manual, but if you could remove it, and use some brake clean on the clutch disk in some way, it might help. Good luck |
