All depends on the spring rate and valving of the coilover compared to the spring rate of a coil spring and valving of the shock used.

They can be setup to ride almost identically, but the springs used on coilovers are race springs and can handle more abuse.


You can adjust coilovers more using a dual rate or a single progressive rate, play around with valving etc..

Of course the larger piston on 2.5 and 3.0 coilovers offers more dampening ability than a 2.0 shock without the harshness.
