If you can get in contact with the previous owner, I believe I would do so and ask him if the torque converter was replaced when the tranny was rebuilt. Still, if the converter was going bad or if the clutch in the converter was slipping, over time that would burn and discolor the fluid. Are you sure it's tranny related? Could it possibly be the engine itself hesatating? Notice any excess smoke coming from the exhaust
