Those that have modified their cup holders?
Ok, I have an early 99 truck with the lovely cup thrower. I went ahead and purchased a brand new 01+ cup holder the other day off of ebay for a great deal, but it was grey and I need tan. Well I figured no big deal I'll just paint it like my gauge pod. The only problem with my gauge pod is that some of the paint has chipped off where the pod meets the dash board, so I was worried about how well a painted cup holder would hold up. I asked around and was told to first spray an adhesion promoter and then paint it. I went ahead and did the adhesion promoter and to my horror it ate the textured finish right off of the face plate. I tried like crazy to get it off but it was to late and the damage was done.
Well I went ahead a purchased another 01+ cupholder and I was going to paint it without the adhesion promoter, but it still has me worried. Then I remembered reading a while back about a couple people that modified their old cup thrower face plate to attatch to the new 01+ cupholder and all was well. I have been looking at this avenue and it looks doable but I have a tendancy to underestimate projects, so I am here asking if anyone has done this? If you have or know someone that did is there any possibility to get some pictures to better illustrate the modification that was done?
Thanks,
Mike
