Go to DIY-Injectors.com, click whats new and read the article from Diesel World Feb 08 It will give you a good pictoral of what the injectors torn down look like and do.

Basically there is 2 main components of injectors that affect flow. nozzles and intensifier piston volume

The injector nozzles are pretty much the same design, just the hole size changes.

The intensifier piston is what creates the push from the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) converted into fuel pressure through the nozzle.

So how do they affect each other? From what I get out of what I have read is the intensifer piston dictates the volume the injector can flow. The diameter is the same of the piston, but when they are machined as shown in the article listed above, they can travel farther down the bore and push more fuel, basically like taking a small block chevy and stroking it. More travel, more fuel.
The nozzles dont do a whole lot unless there is more fuel trying to be pushed IE the intenisfier pistons. So from what I see, in 7.3 PSDs, the stock nozzles will flow enough fuel up to 160cc intensifier (biggest gain). Beyond that the holes are too small. larger nozzles on a 160cc injector will push slightly more than stock nozzles and is the best case scenerio, more volume and bigger holes.

So in recap on a 7.3,

nozzles alone: little bit "50hp" DIY stage 2Bs
intensifer upgrade/mod: biggest gain "120hp" DIY split shot to single Stage 1Cs
intensifer and nozzles: the cake with the icing "160hp" DIY split shot to single shots Stage 2Cs.


My personal views for what I am trying to accomplish is I run a Vegistroke WVO system, but no matter how hot you get WVO it will still be slightly more viscous than diesel, so larger nozzles will allow more fuel to flow and the intensifer pistons will increase the volume to make the power. So I am going with Stage 2Cs.


Do you even want to talk about new perfomance injectors? They range from $2500-4,000 for a set.
I am dumping used fryer oil and chicken fat into a 240k motor, the cheaper the better for me!!
