Actually this isn't true!!! yes the drop in's have a sealing problem, but I have seen many K&N open element filters will huge holes in the gauze material. It all depends on where you drive. If you are mainly in the city the K&N may perform okay, but if you are in the country where dust is higher, construction sites, out in the desert, these filters simply don't hold up at all. I would be doing oil analysis every three months and keep an eye on Silicon levels.
