Did you clean the rotors with brake cleaner before hand. If not the preservative used on them to prevent them from rusting on the shelf. This coating which is like a grease if not removed prior to installing the rotors can cause a lot of things to happen, clunking, poor braking, that stuff when it gets warm from braking gets goey. Then it builds up on the pads.
