Static Time'n How To??

New to diesels in gen....got a new injector pump, and took off the oil fill and gear off main engine gear....i know you are all cringing i am sure.....but wht done is done...

My question is this....is static time in diesels like gassers??? take off water pump aline notches dots wht ever is for applaction??? if soo wht are the markings on the injector pump gear to line up to the main gear behind the wter pump....now i hope this all makes sense i am jsut going off my experence with gassers...any an all info links pics phone calls hahaha will help...also wht is a good all around book for diesel care for my truck...93 F-350 non trbo from factroy but has a banks after market on her...
