88 f-350 w/ 93 7.3
hey guys i am new to this site but i have a few question. i own a 88 f-350 dually 2wd w/ a 7.3 in it. my question is it is hard to start at all times after it has set for at least a couple of hours and constantly has black smoke coming out. i changed the glowplugs but didn't seem to matter. the glowplugs in it were in very bad shape. also wanting to now if i could remove the original air intake and make my own that goes directly to the turbo. please help

Black smoke all the time... Check your turbo. Inspect the impeller for damage and free spinning. If all is good there, you might look at the exhaust end. If the turbo is working, it should stuff enough air to make the smoke go away. Look for boost leaks, too. Especially on the compressor end.
Hopefully a piece of glowplug didn't find it's way to the turbo. I don't know about the hard start. If it delivers fuel, and the glowplugs are working, it would look like a compression issue. Just some ideas of where to look... |
