Cummins conversion

I just recently got back to school and at my vo tech school i go to for a half a school day we have a 94 dodge 3500 2wd drw that we might be tunrning into a pulling truck but instead of keepin the cummin 12v in it we were going to take one ofthe CAT 3116's we have and hook that up to aonther trans we have to fit it. And seeing that the cummins will be no use to him I asked him if i could ahv it to put in my 89 and he was liek lemme think bout it. And i was wondering would it be worth it. I've already found a site the ahs a 12v engine mounting kit for my 89 and i looked up everything and i was gonna get rid of the C6 tran i got now for a ZF-5 manual trans and it came out to around 2800 to 3000 dollars seeing that i might be gettin this engine for free. so i was jus wonderin what your guys thoughts werre and if thsi is alot harder then im thinkin.

I think it would be worth it the 12v is a great engine that you can get a lot of power from and since its all mechanical its easier to swap since you dont have a mess of wiring to worry about converting. So i would say go for it

i would do it but the only bad thing with a 94 cummins is you start off with a base hp rating of 190 hp and 40ft pds of torque. i think the 981/2 twelve valve was the best motor to swap cause it had a higher hp rating stock. but with injectors, fuel setup, and a set of twins that thing should rock. i know a guy with a very clean obs with a cummins in it and it sounds so sweet. sounds like the thing has a huge cam the way it lopes.

yeah the first half of 98 was the last of the 12valve in 98.5 they switched over to the 24valve so the early 98 before the 12valve was discontinued would have the most power

12v for free...i would go for it. there is so much power you can make out of that motor. grind the fuel plate flat, move the afc housing foward and the fuel plate foward, turn the star wheel, add a 3k gsk, and bump up the timing. thats just some mods for the pump. then you can do turbo injectors and such. but yeah it wouldnt be too terribly hard i dont think just have to make some dodge stuff fit in a ford or buy some adaptors for stuff like the ps pump, a/c com., and other stuff.

If no ones messed with it that motor should be a 160 hp me thinks. That pump will have small delivery valves and you will not get a very big kick in the azz frum grinding the plate or the other pump mod. 96ish models and up have the bad mother pumps with big DL valves. How many miles are on it?

Hey man,...if it's free,....goferit!
