have a few questions im kinda new to this

i am looking at a 90 7.3 turbo. i just emailed the guy so i dont know all the details but it is a manual and 4wd. what are the standard gears in these trucks? what can you do to make some power. i know it has a turbo and past that i dont know much. theres no chips or anything is there? sorry if im re asking questions. just tryn to decide if i wana hold off for a 350 with a solid axle. are parts pretty available for them?

I dont think 1990 has a turbo.the powerstroke started 1994 1/2.i,m working on one right now,it,s a 90 and its a IDI.no turbo.good work truck.but you wont get there to fast.but last forever.

Well if it has a turbo it is an aftermarket setup like a banks system. As for performance. Crank up the injection pump some. Other then that not much really you can do.

I agree with the above. On mine, I had the Banks Turbo exhaust and transcommand. Turned the pump up a little. It pulled my 5er decently. I wound up sleeving the motor and it is still running today with about 500k on the clock.

if ur looking for a truck to make fast or mod you should wait for a Powerstroke. if you are looking for a truck to run slow but forever go IDI.

yeah,you guys are right,that motor is a die hard.i just did some maintenance
stuff and now glow plugs.but shes a worker and how this guy drives and takes care of this truck.it will out live us all

it sounds like a good one.it got to be banks or hypermax turbo kit.and you can turn up pump and timing alittle.

My '94 IDI turbo is a runnin dude and I pull hard and BIG loads with it too. I have a hydrogen generator on it and I am getting over 20mpg all the time (not pulling ofcourse, empty city and highway driving). MIne can pull right with our 6.0's and for sure my new 6.4 and it has over 300,000 miles. Don't let this old engine fool you they have some good power in them!
