1988 F350, 7.3. Hauling a heavy 5th wheel across the country. During one long hill my speed dropped down to 40, so I turned on the 4 way flashers. Immediately, it was as though I had downsized to a smaller engine- speed started dropping faster. I turned off the four ways, power returned.
A mechanic told me that the alternator is a bit weak, putting out about 13.8 volts. But in a diesel, I would not have thought that would be a problem which would rob me of power.
Any ideas what wpuld cause this?
