Gasser out, Diesel in. I have questions.
Hi, new member, first post.
I'm a chevy guy, but I love my big f350. So here is what's happening.
Basics: 1992 F350 crew cab Long box 4X4
351 gasser
127,000 km's on truck or approx. 79,000 miles
3 speed automatic transmission
What I just did: Bought a 7.3 n/a diesel. As far as I know its from a 1990 with 230,000 kms or 143,000 miles on it. Its from a 2WD.
What I need to know before I swap, well pretty much anything you can tell me. I know I'll need a different transmission, so what will work best? I'm not afraid to convert to a manual tranny if the task aint too hard. What will I need to do about fuel tanks? (mine has dual gas tanks). Engine mounts, will I need to fabricate some, or will stock work? I assume since all of the engine sensors are ford that they should all work? Guages, will I need more?
Last that I can think of...gearing. Seeing as how diesels obviously run at lower rpm's I assume something has to be changed. Keep in mind I am currently running 37" tires when you calculate. I'm good with wrenches and minor fabricating, but technical data is a different story.
Thanks guys!
