Help needed: Temp. gauge quit working

Today my temp. gauge just quit working all of a sudden. The needle dropped to the left of the gauge. I suspect a loose connection or broken wire. However, I am not sure where the temp. sensor and the wire to it are located.
Also, I noticed I have a wire going to the top of the fuel filter/water seperator that has broken. What does this wire do? Could it have anything to do with the temp. gauge problem? The truck is an 88, F350 with the 7.3IDI
Thanks.
Jeff

The wire that is by the seperator, makes the "water in fuel" light come on. If i'm not mistaken, I think the sensor is my the thermostat housing. Hope this helps.

I will look again for the thermostat housing. It was near dark when I was looking this evening and I never did find the housing.
Thanks,
Jeff
