Motor Swap
My buddy has a 77 f-250 highboy and a 7.3 from a 88 or 89 f250. we are trying to put the 7.3 into the highboy and we were wondering if the non turbo 7.3 is the same block as a ford 460. if not well have to make our own engine mounts. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.

No its not the same. I even tink the bellhousing bolt pattern is different.

It won't drop right in, The transmission bell is made for a Ford engine on a '77 F-250 and the 7.3 engine was produced by International for Ford. Ford made a the bell to fit the 7.3 motor, International didn't make the motor to fit the Ford Trans, If you have the trans out of the truck the motor came from that would make it easier

I don't now of any frame changs that were for just the diesel trucks so I would think that if you use the diesel mounts thay should work. I'm not positive on this but from what I know it seems to me it should work. Try to put the mounts on the frame first. If you would let me know how you make out with your projectThanks Dominic |
