<<< 7.3 IDI STARTING ISSUE >>>

The truck is a 92 F350 IDI 7.3 with 308k on it. The only way I can get it to start is with starting fluid but once running it's great.

I tested all the glow plugs and had to change one. I checked the output from the GPR at the glow plugs themselves and there's voltage there with key one but still no start. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

run a fuel pressure test at the test port by the filter housing , run it when you are trying to start to make sure it builds quickly enough , like at least 6 lbs in just a few seconds anyway , make sure you have no leaks around return lines , with that mileage ,if all that checks good , you have a weak injection pump, alot of those pumps run ok once started but do not want to start good cold , they do have a cold start solenoid built into the pump, make sure you have voltage on all three wies at pump also when switch is on

There's no return leaks. I was wondering about fuel being an issue and who knows when the pump was changed last...if at all. I'll check it out.

Ok so fuel supply is good and power at all 3 wires on pump. Cold start sol workin too if it matters.

Thing that gets me is isn't the GPR supposed to cycle? It's just a constant voltage and it doesn't make any noise or clicking like it seems it should do.

SCUFFY is the man! This is exactly what I had to do with my '92 IDI & found it was the injection pump. Sent it out for a rebuild & has started trouble-free since. I'm told they only last 125k-135k miles & mine rolled a 7 at 131k.
