RPM tack not working

Hey i have a 1993 ford f350 idi and the rpm tack isnt working. We changed the oil in the truck and the tack started reading at higher rpms but it doesnt read when it is just idling or when you are barely on the gas is there a way to take it out and the sensor or do i have to replace it?
