Non turbo?

So I'm looking at a non turbo idi for a backup truck and I've been wondering if any of y'all have dealt with them? I know their simple but can they put some good power down? I've heard about banks systems that'll add about 100 horses but I'm wondering how they are stock? Im looking at a 4x4 if that makes any difference to its street skills? I know it'll never be a drag racer but since they dont have a turbo shouldn't they be quicker to put power down since they don't have to spool? Just few questions I'm looking at it as a backup/ offroader/ recovery kinda truck

Yes, IDI's have great bottom end power as they have much higher compression and dont rely on boost for fueling. For what you are describing, an IDI sounds perfect.

Are they fast stock? No, but they will tow anything you put behind them and get you to wherever you are going.
