Newbie IDI electonic question

I am planning on buying an older 7.3 IDI truck for the farm. I prefer the engines with as few electronic controlled systems as possible and from what I have read here and elsewhere, the change to the Powerstroke was when Ford added lots of computer controlled and electronic controlled systems. My question or clarification is do I need to shop for something 1993 or earlier, or if I find a 1994 non-Powerstorke am I "safe"? Simply put, did the increase in electronic systems come with the 1994 year change or with the Powerstroke change?

Thanks

The electronics came with the "Powerstroke". The 94 IDI's had a turbo but are not a Powerstroke.

OK 94 has a power stroke b4 it was named power stroke in 95 the name got hung on it.. You need to look 4 a late 94 second half of production yr. that is wen hte power stokes came out.. b4 that it was a turboed IDI diesel engine so you need to inquire about 94's i have one and its a power stroke. Ie NO fule pump /distrubitor, no pluming going to injectors etc so its a power stroke they called it direct injection turbo diesel, than walla out came the 95s n walla POWESTROKE name was given to the engine.... History 4u.... Bill

I thought all the Powerstroke engines were turbo...

My early 94 (3/94) is a non-powerstroke and definitely not turbo.
