its a idi right?

hi im new to this forum and as my name implies im not much of a ford guy. i also know nothing about diesels. however im looking at getting a truck from my uncle to pull my trailer/camper.
the truck im looking at:
1994 f350
2 wheel drive
dually
crew cab
5 speed manual trans
IT HAS BADGES ON THE FENDERS THAT SAY "TURBO DIESEL"
nowhere does it say powerstroke
however i heard that the majority of 94's with manual trans had the powerstroke. the 8th digit of the vin is an "F", which in my searches made me think it was a powerstroke, i thought that an idi turbo had the 8 vin "K" or am i backwards?
(cliffnotes: if the 8th digit of the vin is a "F" is it a powerstroke or and idi turbo?)

you could call a ford dealership and they could tell you. I don't know off hand though. however, it should say powerstroke if it indeed is one

the ford dealer ran the vin and told me that it has a direct injection turbo powerstroke but im still not sure. i only looked a the truck once and i got the idea that it was a turbo idi. im goinig to go look at the truck again as soon as i get a chance, what should i look for that would tell me for sure?

Do you know enough about diesels to know an injection pump if you see one?

Powerstrokes won't have an injection pump.

On an IDI you can see the injector lines.

Pop the hood. If it looks like this its an IDI



94 could go either way. They didnt put the powerstroke badge on till 95

heres a pic of our 91 that came out of the factory with the "Banks Turbo" option. haven't seen too many around like it

take the head off and see if there is a combustion chamber. Best way

thanks guys! it dosent really look like either of your pics. when you open the hood you can see the factory turbo sitting on top of the engine. and yes next time i look at it i will look for an injection pump and lines. maybe ill take a pic and post it up if im still not sure

i see both of the pics of your idi have v-belts. did all idi's have v-belts cause i do remember that this truck is a serpentine belt
