Adding a turbo???
I have a 92 7.3 non-turbo. I have been thinking of adding an aftermarket turbo to the truck. I use it to pull a 24' enclosed trailer. It runs ok till I get to a hill. Then it all but goes backwards......
Someone told me that the head bolts need to be replaced when doing this or I will have problems with blown head gaskets. I figured this would be the place to see what everyone here thinks. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance |

Well I'm pretty sure that the turbo IDI's from the factory still came with head bolts.
It depends on how far you want to go. If you replace the head bolts you might as well do the gaskets. If you add head studs, I do beleave you will have to pull the motor or lift the cab. That one rear bolt gets you every time. One the plus side I have been seeing used kits for 800-100 bucks, you could also consider propane injection |
