IP pump question....

I have some after market pump on my truck and the gear has a single dowl pin on the pump and upper gear. I assume this is the timing? if its out its 180 out and wouldn't run correct?
The pump was turned all the way to the passenger side and I turned it back some and WOW its a whole new truck. starts better runs smoother WAY more power. Still seemed a little loud. So I set it back to where the factory indexing marks where and it don't sound like a skeleton beating off in a filing cabnit anymore I can't hear the motor run when I'm driving and it still has power.

I think I'm going to just leave it at the 12 o clock indexing mark.
